In this episode of The INK! Podcast, St. Johns County School District Superintendent Mr. Tim Forson sits down with Ian and Jim to share an update on the start of the 2024-2025 school year. Tune in to hear more about new school openings, FAST progress monitoring, school grades and Career Academies!
This August, the St. Johns County School District opened two new schools: Trout Creek K-8 Academy in the Shearwater community and Lakeside K-8 Academy in the Beacon Lakes community. The opening of both schools went smoothly. In August 2025, one new K-8 Academy is planned to open in Rivertown. Two new K-8 Academies are planned to open in August 2026 – one each in Nocatee and Silverleaf.
At this time in the school year, student count is approximately 51,400 – representing an increase of 1,000 new students or 2% over the 2023-2024 school year. The St. Johns County School District includes approximately 3,200 teachers and 6,000 total staff district wide.
Mr. Forson discusses FAST testing, Florida’s standardized assessments for monitoring student progress. Schools across the county are concluding the first round of assessments, PM1. FAST testing provides immediate results which allows teachers to assess student progress quickly and to adjust instruction accordingly. St. Johns County students continue to excel and the St. Johns County School District continues to remain an “A” rated school district.
