Podcast to talk about why she is so passionate about partnering with INK! and supporting the Take Stock In Children program. Ian and Jim speak with Sherry as she shares about her experiences with INK!’s Take Stock in Children program while sharing their own experiences and what it means to each of them to support local students in their pursuit of a college education.
Take Stock in Children (TSIC) is a statewide non-profit organization that was established in 1995 to offer low-income, at-risk students a unique opportunity to escape the cycle of poverty through education. This program offers students the opportunity to earn a college tuition scholarship, pairs students with an adult mentor, and provides college success coaching to assist students in achieving. Since 1998, INK! has been the exclusive umbrella agency for this program in St. Johns County.
Since 2007, the Take Stock in Children – St. Johns program has graduated 175 students, 171 of those graduates entered college immediately, representing a 97% college admission rate for the program. In comparison, the national average of college admission rate for low income high school graduates is approximately 25%.
One of the components of the TSIC program Ian and Jim discuss is mentorship, an academically focused mentoring program that guides students towards successful completion of high school and enrollment in college. Each TSIC student is paired with a mentor, a caring, compassionate adult who chooses to devote their time to the student. Take Stock Mentors offer support, guidance, and encouragement. A Take Stock Mentor can change a life by helping a child build confidence, a solid foundation of values, establish goals, and improve their academic skills. Take Stock Mentors receive training and resources to support their student’s academic success. Mentors are integral to a TSIC student’s success and to the TSIC program.
INK!’s Take Stock in Children program is the grateful beneficiary of the financial support of Davidson Realty and the Davidson Cares Annual Clay Day. Through the Davidson Cares Clay Day, Davidson Cares has funded over 16 two-year college scholarship benefiting Take Stock in Children graduates from across St. Johns County. This year Davidson Cares will host its 7th Annual Davidson Cares Clay Day on October 20, 2022.
